Overview
We were contacted by St Martin Parish Council who wished to have the rubber mulch extended to include underneath the Zip Wire. This entailed removing the existing rubber matts, which were to be sold, and replacing them with Ecobond rubber mulch.
What we did
On arrival at St Martins Play Area, the first job to crack on with was the taking up of the old rubber tiles. Once these were removed the mini digger was used to dig out the middle section that separates the zip wire from the other playground apparatus which already had existing rubber mulch in place. The new edge was prepared for the new mulch and weed killer was applied to the any remaining grass.
Then came the laying of the rubber mulch, with the use of a Baron F200 mixer, brown and green rubber mulch was mixed with gummy bond resin, mixing until the mixture was evenly wet.
Prior to laying the rubber mulch it was time to prime the edges and obstacles such as the legs to the zip wire. Did you know that priming is the first step to creating a long lasting and durable poured in place rubber surface. It can be time consuming, but without proper priming, your poured in place rubber surface will not last as long as it should, and never reach its full potential.
Finally came the filling in of the inside of the primed areas, this had to be laid at 40mm to provide the correct fall height protection.
